Jimmy Grimble lives in Oldham and follows Manchester City, and at school he is a target for Gordon and Psycho, two Manchester United supporters who make his days difficult. He also gets to know Alice, a homeless woman living in condemned housing, who hands him a pair of old boots. She says a former City player, Robbie Brewer, once wore them and that they are magic.
