Ally Sheedy

Biography

Ally Sheedy is an American actress, author and teacher who was born in New York City and started acting as a teenager in commercials and guest television roles. She made her film debut in Bad Boys (1983) and soon became known for a run of teen-oriented movies, including Oxford Blues (1984), The Breakfast Club (1985) and St. Elmo's Fire (1985), which linked her to the so-called Brat Pack. Her science fiction work in WarGames (1983) and Man's Best Friend (1993) brought Saturn Award nominations for Best Actress, and she had a starring role in Short Circuit (1986). After a career downturn, she won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for High Art (1998), playing a drug-addicted photographer. She later had a main role in Single Drunk Female (2022 to 2023). Sheedy has also written books, including the best-selling She Was Nice to Mice, and has been a professor at the City College of New York.
