Plot summary
During the Civil War, Jeff Travis spied for Quantrill's raiders, then joined the Confederate Army as a regular soldier. After the war, a gang hunting Quantrill's war criminals comes looking for him on a river boat, and his friend Josie warns him in time to jump overboard and get away. She urges him to ride to Prescott, Arizona and start over. There the saloon owner Jules Mourret, who knows what Jeff did in the war, hires him to keep an eye on the gold shipments moving along the local stage line, which Jason Conroy runs with his daughter Shelby and the driver Jake Hooper. Mourret's men have already driven the bandit Degas out of town, and Mourret is preparing a robbery of his own.
