Biography
Vondie Curtis-Hall is an American actor and a director for film and television who began on the stage, as a member of the original Broadway cast of Dreamgirls, in which he created the role of Marty. Born in Detroit, he went on to appear in films such as Coming to America (1988), Passion Fish (1992), Crooklyn (1994), Drop Squad (1994), Romeo + Juliet (1996), Eve's Bayou (1997) and Turn It Up (2000). He wrote and directed Gridlock'd (1997), a cult film, and his directing work also includes Glitter, Waist Deep, Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story and episodes of The Shield, Firefly and Chicago Hope. On television he played Dennis Hancock in Chicago Hope and Ben Urich in Daredevil, had recurring parts in Soul Food, I'll Fly Away and ER, and appeared in Harriet in 2019; a guest turn on ER brought him an Emmy nomination as a guest actor in a drama series.
