Plot summary

Bruford Jamison Jr. heads the minority development division of an advertising agency, and the campaigns he works on include a billboard for a malt liquor called Mumblin' Jack, with a woman in a bikini straddling a bottle, and a fried chicken commercial built on racial stereotypes, with a Bible verse printed on every napkin. His sister Lenora calls in the Drop Squad, an underground group whose name stands for Deprogramming and Restoration of Pride. The squad takes Bruford, and its members disagree over methods: Rocky Seavers, who leads it, favors nonviolent tactics such as slides, posters, slogans and family photographs, while Garvey argues that harsher methods are needed.
