Plot summary
In 1861, Harrison Bolding leaves his wife and goes off to fight for the Confederacy. Three years later, during the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia, he and two fellow soldiers, James Hogg and After Stand Kennerly, are separated from their company as darkness falls and the fighting ebbs. Unable to find their way, they wander the thick woods. There they come upon three other lost men, John Sunderlin, Augustus Elliot and Pietro Brolo, Union soldiers who are just as far from their unit. Neither group recognizes the other's side. Around a campfire the six soldiers trade stories of home and share what food they have left.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Wicked Spring (2002)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- To stretch its budget, director Kevin Hershberger's production broke filming up over most of 2000, pausing so the cast could grow beards and longer hair and lose weight before shooting the battle scenes in March and April.
- The film is fictional but draws on several real American Civil War events, notably an event that took place in 1862 during the Battle of Crampton's Gap.
- The band Carbon Leaf wrote "Dear" as an original song for the film's closing credits, and it later appeared as a hidden track on their 2001 album Echo, Echo.
