Plot summary
Georgiana, Alabama, around 1950: the cotton harvest is coming, and Tyrone "Pine Top" Purvis is trying to keep the Honeydripper, the blues club where he plays piano, from going under. He owes money to the landlord, the liquor man and the chicken man, and the club is in danger of being taken over. Across the way stands Touissant's, which draws the crowd he wants: the young cotton pickers and the recruits from the nearby Army base. His plan to book a famous guitar player falls apart, so he turns to Sonny, a young electric guitarist, and bills him as Guitar Sam.
