Plot summary
In Verona Beach, the Capulets and the Montagues are two rival business empires, and the hostility of the older generation reaches their younger relatives. A shootout between Benvolio, Romeo's cousin, and Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, throws the city into chaos, and Captain Prince, the chief of police, warns both families that further violence will cost them their lives. Romeo learns that the Capulets are holding a party that night and goes with Benvolio and their friend Mercutio because Rosaline, whom he loves, will be there. The party and the drug he takes overwhelm him, and in a restroom he meets Juliet. The two fall in love, neither knowing whose family the other belongs to. Tybalt sees Romeo at the party and swears to kill him for entering his family's home.
