Plot summary
In the mid-1960s, Ralph "Petey" Greene is serving time when he meets Dewey Hughes, who has come to visit his brother Milo. Petey learns that Dewey works in radio, as the program director at WOL in Washington, D.C. After Petey helps the warden talk down a fellow prisoner, he is released. He turns up at the station and claims Dewey promised him a job on the air, but he is rebuffed. With his girlfriend Vernell behind him, he pickets outside the station, drawing growing crowds, until Dewey agrees to a game of pool and offers him a chance behind the microphone.
