Biography

Terence Hill is an Italian actor, director, screenwriter and producer who started out as a child performer and went on to win international fame in action and comedy movies, frequently alongside Bud Spencer. He was born in Venice and discovered at twelve by Dino Risi, who cast him in Vacation with a Gangster (1951). After years of supporting parts and spaghetti Westerns, he took the screen name Terence Hill and became a star with God Forgives... I Don't! (1967). His comic Westerns with Spencer, among them They Call Me Trinity (1970) and Trinity Is Still My Name! (1971), proved enormously popular, and he also teamed with Spencer on Watch Out, We're Mad (1974) and Crime Busters (1977). He co-starred with Henry Fonda in My Name Is Nobody (1973), his own favorite, and later directed Lucky Luke (1991) and Troublemakers (1994). From 2000 to 2022 he played the title priest in the television series Don Matteo.

At a swimming meet, Italian filmmaker Dino Risi spotted Terence Hill when he was 12. Hill then became a child actor, playing Gianni, the orphan gang leader, in Risi's 1951 film Vacation with a Gangster.
