Plot summary
Dave Speed has just finished at the police academy when he is handed a parking ticket to deliver at a Native American village in the Florida Everglades, a place the government and NASA have emptied for a secret test. A missile loaded with red plutonium is fired into it, and the blast catches Dave on the spot. He survives and returns to the city. His partner, Sergeant Willy Dunlop, hears the account and dismisses it. The radiation has left Dave with super speed, strength, telekinesis, precognition and telepathy, yet the powers stop working at seemingly random moments, and neither he nor his friends can explain the changes.
