Plot summary
Travis, a gunslinger, gets a letter from his mother Maw. She wants the family together for Christmas, and she asks him to bring Moses and the rest of them to her home, where she says a treasure from the boys' father is waiting. Moses works as a bounty hunter and is still angry with Maw over his stolen horses, which she turned loose. Travis needs his brother to come, so he saves an outlaw, Sam Stone, from the gallows and then joins Moses in trying to catch Stone. Travis gives the family directions for the trip, and Moses' family leaves for Maw's house the next morning.
