Russ Bender

Biography

Russ Bender was an American actor who spent his early career writing detective stories for magazines. His time in the Army cut that work short, and when he left military service the market for such fiction had shrunk. He then turned to acting, with one of his television appearances coming in the Gunsmoke episode Gold Mine, broadcast in 1965 during the show's eleventh season. Writing remained part of his working life, since he supplied scripts for five films and many television scripts. He was a familiar face in B-movies and collaborated often with director Maury Dexter. His Shag & Bones: The Complete Series was published by Steeger Books in 2023, with an introduction by John Wooley.
