Nelson Leigh
Biography
An American actor of the 1940s and 1950s, Nelson Leigh was born in Mississippi and studied at the University of Southern California, graduating in 1929. His screen career included more than 130 motion picture appearances, usually in supporting roles. On Broadway he appeared in Hamlet in 1945. His 1949 role as King Arthur came in the serial The Adventures of Sir Galahad. He also had a part in the 1954 western Jesse James vs. the Daltons. Costume dramas were another part of his film work. Because he came across as calm, he was often cast as military officers and other figures of authority. He played Dr. Gailbraithe in the science-fiction film World Without End (1956). Television became a larger part of his later work, with a 1950 episode of The Lone Ranger, the 1955 anthology Police Call, and appearances on Perry Mason, Bonanza and The F.B.I.
