Plot summary
Harry Baldwin leaves his Los Angeles home with his wife Ann, their son Rick and their daughter Karen, towing a camping trailer toward a fishing spot in the southern Sierra Nevada. Two hours on, bright lights appear in the sky and the radio goes to static. Across the dial a sporadic CONELRAD news report hints at an atomic war, and they see a mushroom cloud from a hydrogen bomb over Los Angeles. Harry turns back at first for Ann's mother, then decides the roads would be clogged and the city soaked in fallout, and keeps toward the mountains.

- Ray Milland both directed and starred in Panic in Year Zero!, and Roger Corman said Milland was overwhelmed by the dual job: he was not organized enough to act and direct at the same time, lost time on the three-week schedule and forgot his scenes. Corman heard this from his own technicians who worked on the film.
