Biography

Beverly Garland was an American actress who built a career on tough, self-possessed women, leading low-budget action and science-fiction pictures while becoming a familiar face on television. Born in Santa Cruz, California, and raised in Glendale, she made her film debut as a secretary in the noir D.O.A. (1949) and went on to Roger Corman productions including Gunslinger (1956) and It Conquered the World (1956). From 1957 to 1958 she starred as undercover officer Casey Jones in Decoy, described as the first American police series built around a woman. She was best known as Barbara Harper Douglas on My Three Sons, a role she played from 1969 to 1972, and later as Dotty West on Scarecrow and Mrs. King. She also appeared in Pretty Poison (1968), had a recurring part on 7th Heaven, and earned an Emmy nomination for Medic.
