Plot summary
Mr. and Mrs. Mannering must travel overnight, and when the babysitter cancels they leave their teenage daughter Libby and younger daughter Tess alone at their isolated property. Libby's friend Kit Austin is permitted to visit for dinner only, because no adult is on the premises. Kit is new to the Mannering girls' habit of prank calling, and they draw numbers from the telephone directory, Libby murmuring that she saw what someone did and knows who they are. Steve Marak answers, and his wife Judith has just been killed in the house. He demands the caller's name; Libby calls herself Suzette. Amy, who lives next door and is in love with Steve, lets herself in and finds him alone.

- For I Saw What You Did, William Castle promised in an early trailer that a section of the theater would be fitted with seat belts for viewers "who might be scared out of their seats"; advertisements also warned the film was about "UXORICIDE!" The gimmick was abandoned before release and never used.
