Roger Allam
Biography
Roger Allam is an English actor whose stage and screen work has earned him three Laurence Olivier Awards. Born in Bow, London, and educated at Manchester University, he played Mercutio for the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1983 before taking the role of Inspector Javert in the original London staging of Les Misérables from 1985 to 1986. He won an Olivier for Best Actor in 2001 for Privates on Parade, and another for his Falstaff at Shakespeare's Globe. On screen he appeared as Lewis Prothero in V for Vendetta (2005), the Queen's private secretary in The Queen (2006), Royalton in Speed Racer (2008) and the crime novelist Nicholas Hardiment in Tamara Drewe (2010). He played DCI Fred Thursday in Endeavour, Peter Mannion in The Thick of It, and voices the demon Azazel in The Sandman.
