Dermot Crowley
Biography
Dermot Crowley is an Irish actor known for his work in theater, film and television. Born in Cork, he had a leading role in Conor McPherson's The Weir, an Olivier Award winning production that was performed in the UK, Ireland and the US during the late 1990s. He won a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle award for featured performance for his part in The Cripple of Inishmaan, produced by the Druid Theatre Company in Los Angeles in 2011. His first television part came in 1976 as George Bernard Shaw in Victorian Scandals. He appeared as General Crix Madine in Return of the Jedi (1983), and in Son of the Pink Panther (1993) he played Sergeant François Duval. His television credits also include Father Ted, Jonathan Creek, Midsomer Murders, The Bill and Luther. Later films include The Best Offer (2013) and The Death of Stalin (2017), in which he played Lazar Kaganovich.

A role that slipped away
In 1987, Crowley tried out for the Seventh Doctor part in Doctor Who. His screen test footage turned up later among the special features on the DVD of Time and the Rani.
Beyond film
For the Naxos audiobook released in 2003, Crowley provided the voice of Molloy, a character in the novel by Samuel Beckett.
