Richard Kiel
Biography
Richard Dawson Kiel was an American actor who stood 7 feet tall and often played villains. Born in Detroit and raised in the Greater Los Angeles area, he worked in film from the early 1960s, appearing in The Phantom Planet (1961) and The Nutty Professor (1963). He also played a giant alien in the 1962 Twilight Zone episode To Serve Man. He was notable for playing Jaws, a metal-toothed villain, in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and again in Moonraker (1979). His other films included Silver Streak (1976), The Longest Yard (1974), Force 10 from Navarone (1978), Pale Rider (1985), Cannonball Run II (1984) and Happy Gilmore (1996), where he played Mr. Larson. He later recorded the role of Vlad in Tangled (2010), co-wrote a biography, and published an autobiography.

A role that slipped away
Kiel and Arnold Schwarzenegger were both candidates for the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk, an American television series, in 1977. Kiel started filming the pilot, but the producers dismissed him because they wanted a more muscular Hulk.
Big break
Producers noticed Kiel in Barbary Coast and cast him as Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and then Moonraker (1979). Jaws is among the rare Bond villains to show up in two Bond films.
A change of course
Between 1963 and 1965, Kiel taught mathematics at night school at the William B. Ogden Radio Operational School, which was located in Burbank, California.
Behind the camera
Kiel wrote Kentucky Lion in 2007 with Pamela Wallace. The book is a biography of Cassius Marcellus Clay, the abolitionist.
