Plot summary
Scott Campbell, an architect, brings his wife Nancy to an old California mansion, where a survey of the property doubles as their wedding anniversary. The previous tenant disappeared from the house, and strange noises, eerie sights and vanishing keys spoil the couple's stay. Scott's employer, Joseph Schiller, arrives with his wife Loy, whose marriage is unhappy, and the two couples glimpse a half man, half beast around the house and a headless woman wandering the grounds. The story grew out of a question about what became of the performers who worked in circus freak shows, and the exteriors were filmed at a mansion in the Hollywood Hills overlooking the Lake Hollywood reservoir.
