Tim Conway
Biography
Tim Conway was an American actor, comedian, writer and director who began in local television in Cleveland as a collaborator with Ernie Anderson. National audiences saw him on The Steve Allen Show and The Garry Moore Show, then he became widely known as the inept Ensign Parker on the World War II sitcom McHale's Navy from 1962 to 1966, which brought him a Primetime Emmy nomination. From 1975 to 1978 he was a regular on The Carol Burnett Show, where his physical comedy and ad-libbing were central and where he played Mister Tudball and the Oldest Man. He also headlined The Tim Conway Comedy Hour and The Tim Conway Show. With Don Knotts he appeared in family films including The Apple Dumpling Gang (1975), its sequel, Gus (1976) and The Private Eyes (1980). He later voiced Barnacle Boy on SpongeBob SquarePants and won five Primetime Emmys, including guest-actor honors for Coach and 30 Rock, as well as a Golden Globe.

About the name
Conway was legally named Thomas and usually went by Tom, but near the start of his acting career he switched his stage name to Tim, joking that he "dotted the O," so that people would not confuse him with the British actor Tom Conway.
Big break
After leaving WJW, Conway moved to New York City and, with Rose Marie's assistance, auditioned for and gained a spot as a regular player on ABC's The Steve Allen Show.
First role
Conway's Dorf character made its debut on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in an episode that aired January 3, 1986. In that appearance, he played a horse jockey.
A first
In 1999, Conway and Ernest Borgnine reunited to voice Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy on Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants, making them the show's first guest stars.
