Plot summary
Teenager Andy Hardy is saving toward a used car, determined to drive Polly Benedict to the Christmas Eve dance. Polly tells him she will spend three weeks with her grandmother, so she cannot go, and Judge Hardy tells his son he cannot have a car of his own. Betsy Booth, twelve, comes to stay with her grandparents for the holiday and is delighted that Andy is her neighbor. Andy's mother Emily travels to Canada to look after her mother, who has had a stroke. Beezy, a friend going out of town, offers to pay Andy to date his girlfriend Cynthia so that she will avoid other men, and Andy agrees.
