Plot summary
A stagecoach brings Rocklin, a quiet cowboy, into Santa Inez. He carries a letter from Red Cardell hiring him as foreman of the K.C. Ranch. Miss Martin, another passenger, says the ranch belongs to her niece Clara instead. In town Rocklin learns that Cardell has been murdered. Harolday, who owns the Topaz Ranch, hires him to hunt the gang of rustlers he holds responsible for Cardell's death. Cardell had planned to bring the district judge a set of playing cards marked for cheating that he had come across in a friend's clothing. Clara and Harolday's daughter Arly both take an interest in Rocklin.
