Ray Stevenson
Biography
Ray Stevenson was a Northern Irish actor who trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and worked in film, television, and stage. Born in Lisburn, his screen debut came with The Theory of Flight (1998), and he starred as legionary Titus Pullo in the BBC and HBO series Rome. He went on to play two Marvel Comics figures: the Punisher in Punisher: War Zone (2008) and a voice role in The Super Hero Squad Show, and Volstagg in Marvel Cinematic Universe films from 2011 to 2017, including Thor (2011). His other films included King Arthur (2004), Kill the Irishman (2011), The Three Musketeers (2011), and RRR (2022). On television he was Isaak Sirko in Dexter, earning a Saturn Award nomination, Blackbeard in Black Sails, and Baylan Skoll in Ahsoka. His stage work included the York Mystery Plays and The Duchess of Malfi at the Royal National Theatre. He died in 2023.

Early training
Stevenson took a design course at Bath Lane College in Newcastle upon Tyne, then studied at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where he graduated at 29.
A first
Stevenson took his first film leading role in Outpost, a Scottish horror picture from 2008. He played a mercenary who fights Nazi zombies inside a bunker located somewhere in Eastern Europe.

Stevenson was announced in 2019 as a lead antagonist in RRR, a Telugu film directed by S. S. Rajamouli that came out in 2022. The part was his first in Indian cinema.
