Plot summary
Mike Fallon is an assassin whose specialty is making a killing look like an accident or a suicide. He drinks at the Oasis, a pub run by a retired killer named Big Ray, alongside other contract men: Carnage Cliff, who works with an axe, Poison Pete, the veterans Mick and Mac, a weapons inventor, and Jane the Ripper, a swordswoman. Milton hands out the assignments. After Mike finishes a job on an accountant named Archie Rudd, Milton tells him to collect his fee in an alleyway, where an amateur assassin comes at him. Mike turns on Milton with an accusation, which Milton denies. Then Mike hears that his ex-girlfriend Beth was killed during a burglary and that she was expecting his child. The supposed burglars died of overdoses soon after.
