Norman Leavitt
Biography
Norman Leavitt, born in Lansing, Michigan, built a career as an actor in film and television, starting on stage in 1935 as a wedding guest in Broadway's How Beautiful With Shoes. He moved into movies in 1946 with The Harvey Girls and spent much of his screen career in supporting and uncredited parts. His best-known role was Ralph, the dimwitted jail handyman on the western series Trackdown from 1958 to 1960. Among his films were The Long, Long Trailer (1954) and The Luck of the Irish (1948). Television brought steady work after a 1952 debut on The Adventures of Kit Carson, with guest appearances on Gunsmoke, The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, The Fugitive and The Andy Griffith Show, where he took several parts. He left acting in 1978, his final credit coming on Quincy, M.E. He died in 2005.
