Martha Hyer
Biography
Martha Hyer was an American actress who appeared in films and on television. Born in Fort Worth, she broke into pictures with an uncredited speaking role in The Locket in 1946 and spent several years in bit parts in B-movies and occasional television work before better roles came her way in the mid-1950s. She played a socialite in Sabrina (1954), Cornelia Bullock in My Man Godfrey (1957), and appeared opposite Cary Grant in Houseboat (1958). Her turn as Gwen French in Some Came Running (1958) earned her an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress. She retired from acting after a 1974 episode of McCloud and later wrote the screenplay for the Western Rooster Cogburn. Her autobiography, Finding My Way: A Hollywood Memoir, was published in 1990, and she died in 2014.
