Plot summary
Sabrina Fairchild grew up on the Long Island estate where her father Thomas works as the Larrabee family's chauffeur, and she has loved the family's playboy son David Larrabee for years without his noticing her. Before she leaves for cooking school in Paris, she watches him lead another woman into the indoor tennis court. Two years later she comes home, and David, not recognizing her, offers her a ride. Once he realizes who she is, he invites her to a party at the mansion. His older brother Linus runs Larrabee Industries and sees the romance as a threat to a corporate merger that depends on David marrying Elizabeth Tyson, the heiress.

- Audrey Hepburn and William Holden began a short-lived affair while making Sabrina that director Billy Wilder knew nothing about, although people on the set did know.
- When Audrey Hepburn first called on Hubert de Givenchy in Paris, he assumed his visitor was Katharine Hepburn, the start of a lifelong association between the designer and the star.
- Cary Grant was the first choice for Linus Larrabee but declined, so Humphrey Bogart took the part, cast against his tough-detective type as a businessman gradually turned romantic lead.
- Humphrey Bogart wanted his wife Lauren Bacall cast opposite him as Sabrina, and complained that Audrey Hepburn needed too many takes to get her dialogue right.
- Billy Wilder started shooting with the script unfinished; Ernest Lehman wrote scenes all day, handed one over at lunch, and filming of it began that same afternoon.
- Edith Head won the Oscar for Best Costumes even though most of Audrey Hepburn's outfits are rumored to have been created by Hubert de Givenchy and chosen by Hepburn herself.
- The Larrabee family's mansion, supposedly in Glen Cove, New York, was actually played by Hill Grove, a Beverly Hills estate that was demolished in the 1960s.
