Plot summary
Third in a series of retrospectives, this one was made to mark the studio's seventieth year. Unlike the two films before it, it turns to material that never reached audiences in finished form: outtakes, cut numbers and glimpses of how the sequences were made. Nine performers who starred in those musicals serve as hosts, appearing as themselves, and one of them comes back to a theatrical film after more than thirty years away. Their introductions move from the first musical talkies through the 1950s, taking in numbers from Brigadoon and The Hollywood Revue of 1929, as well as Singin' in the Rain.
