June Allyson

Biography

June Allyson was an American actress whose career began in dance, first in short subjects and then on Broadway before she signed with MGM in 1943. Born Eleanor Geisman in The Bronx in 1917, she rose to fame in Two Girls and a Sailor and became known for a girl next door image, often paired with Van Johnson. Her films included Best Foot Forward (1943), Girl Crazy (1943), Till the Clouds Roll By (1946), Good News (1947), The Three Musketeers (1948), Little Women (1949), and The Stratton Story (1949). She won a 1951 Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for Too Young to Kiss. Later films included The Glenn Miller Story (1954), Executive Suite (1954), and Strategic Air Command (1955). She hosted The DuPont Show with June Allyson, returned to the stage in Forty Carats and No, No, Nanette, and made her final onscreen appearance in 2001. She died in 2006.
