Plot summary
At Xavier College in Melbourne in 1976, Tim and John are teenagers in the same geography class. Tim has a small part in the school production of Romeo and Juliet and falls for John, the captain of the football team, then asks him out. John accepts. John is at first unwilling to be physical, and Tim writes a letter apologizing for what he did while they kissed after school. A teacher intercepts the letter and warns the two of them that the staff already know. Friends catch them together during a study break. Tim's parents tell him that John's father, Bob, has the letter and threatens court action unless Tim keeps away. Tim rides to John's house and overhears Bob telling John that his mother will book an appointment with a psychologist.
