Plot summary
In 1992, Michael Henderson, a reporter for the British network ITN, travels to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the city is under siege. He meets Jimmy Flynn, an American star journalist chasing the war's most dramatic stories and pictures, and the two argue and talk between their reports at the Holiday Inn, the hotel that houses the press. After an earlier translator proves unreliable, ITN hires Risto Bavić to translate for Henderson. The reporting shows him the suffering of the city's residents. One assignment takes him to Ljubica Ivezic, an orphanage on the front line that shelters two hundred children in desperate conditions. American aid worker Nina arranges for a bus to carry Sarajevan children out to Italy under UN sanction, and Henderson urges her to include Emira, a girl from the orphanage.
