John Rubinstein
Biography
John Rubinstein is an American actor, composer and director who was born in Los Angeles in 1946. He studied theater and music at UCLA and later composition at Juilliard before making his Broadway acting debut in 1972. He won a Theatre World Award for playing the title part in Pippin, and in 1980 he won a Tony Award for his portrayal of James Leeds in Children of a Lesser God. His Broadway work also includes Fools, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, and Ragtime. On screen, his feature films include 21 Grams (2003), Red Dragon (2002), The Boys from Brazil (1978), Another Stakeout (1993), Someone to Watch Over Me (1987), Daniel (1983), Getting Straight (1970), and The Car (1977). He starred in the television series Crazy Like a Fox from 1984 to 1986 and has narrated many audiobooks.

Rubinstein created the title role in the Bob Fosse-directed musical Pippin on Broadway in 1972, earning a Theatre World Award for it.

Rubinstein played James Leeds in Mark Medoff's Children of a Lesser God, which Gordon Davidson directed. His work in that role earned him the Tony, Drama Desk, Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle and Drama-Logue Awards in 1980.

Rubinstein attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied theater and music from 1964 to 1967. He went on to study composition at the Juilliard School in New York.
