Mariette Hartley
Biography
Mariette Hartley is an American actress of film and television who began performing as a teenager at the White Barn Theatre in Norwalk, Connecticut, and was coached by Eva Le Gallienne. Born in Weston, Connecticut, she moved to Los Angeles in the early 1960s and joined the UCLA Theater Group. Her first credited film role came in Sam Peckinpah's Western Ride the High Country (1962), which brought her a BAFTA nomination, and she went on to appear in Alfred Hitchcock's Marnie (1964) and John Sturges's Marooned (1969). On television she had a notable part in Peyton Place, guest roles on Gunsmoke and Star Trek, and won a Primetime Emmy for The Incredible Hulk. She also appeared in the Westerns Barquero (1970) and The Magnificent Seven Ride! (1972), in Polaroid commercials with James Garner, hosted Wild About Animals from 1995 to 2015, and began a recurring role on 9-1-1 in 2018.

While still a student at Staples, Hartley called Rod Serling and asked him to speak in her class. Serling took the call himself, came to her classroom, and years later cast her in a Twilight Zone episode.

At 13, Hartley started her career at the White Barn Theatre in Norwalk, Connecticut. As a teenage stage actress, Eva Le Gallienne took her under her wing as a coach and mentor.
Beyond film
Hartley's own one-woman show, If You Get to Bethlehem, You've Gone Too Far, was staged in Los Angeles in 2006, with Hartley in the starring role.
