Jay Benedict

Biography

Jay Benedict was an American actor who also worked in voice acting and casting, spending most of his career in the United Kingdom and France. Born in Burbank, California, he moved to Europe in the 1960s and made his first film appearance at eleven in La Bande à Bobo, a French film from 1963. His stage work included an early 1970s run of The Rocky Horror Show and Sweet Bird of Youth, staged by Harold Pinter. On screen he appeared in The Dirty Dozen: Next Mission (1985), Death Train (1993), Sharpe's Honour (1994), Carmen (2003), and Icon (2005), and on television in Emmerdale, Foyle's War, and Jonathan Creek. He voiced Shiro Hagen in Star Fleet, dubbed anime including GoShogun: The Time Étranger (1985), and later worked as a voice casting director.

A role that slipped away
Benedict played Deak in the Tosche Station scenes of Star Wars, but the scenes were cut before the film's release.
