Plot summary
Baltimore detective Tom Randall's girlfriend, Dr. Jennifer Allen, traps infected mosquitoes and irradiates them, hoping to cure the Gillen virus. A convicted murderer, Ray Erikson, joins the program in exchange for his prison term. He takes a hostage and gets Jennifer to open the door of the experiment room. Guards fire, and the blast douses the two of them in chemicals and genetically altered mosquitoes. Ray begins to change. Jennifer goes home with Tom, who is then called to a crime scene, where a mosquito-like creature attacks. Tom's stun gun drives it off, and he and his partner, Charlie Morrison, try to work out what they are facing.
