Plot summary
Mike Regan built his aviation company himself, and he lives in a smart house with his wife Rose and his 17-year-old daughter Kaitlyn. His firm is developing an app called Omni Jet and preparing a stock offering that needs approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission. At the office Mike meets Ed Porter, a 28-year-old I.T. consultant, and calls him to the house to fix the slow Wi-Fi; Porter also upgrades the GPS in Mike's car and says he once worked for the National Security Agency and took part in a military exercise in Kandahar. Kaitlyn and Porter begin a relationship through social media, and after she invites him into the house Mike fires him. Porter then starts reaching into the family's private data and watching them through the cameras and devices in the smart house.
