Plot summary
The GoShogun team broke up forty years ago, and Remy Shimada, its former pilot, is driving to a reunion when her car crashes. She is left comatose. The comrades she once flew with, and old adversaries besides, keep watch at her hospital bed while she drifts between life and death. In her dream she and five friends are young again, stranded in a desert city whose inhabitants worship a god of fate. Each of the six receives an anonymous letter naming the day and manner of a brutal death, and Remy's comes first. Visions of that death haunt her, along with memories of a lonely childhood, as she tries to escape the City of Fate.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about GoShogun: The Time Étranger (1985)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- In 1986, Saban Entertainment stitched footage from GoShogun and the unrelated Srungle into a single series, Macron 1; the practice was common because a typical anime's episode count fell short of the 65 needed for five-days-a-week US syndication.
- Saban's European version of Macron 1, a more straightforward edit that dropped the Srungle footage and the parallel-universe angle, was the first anime series broadcast in the Soviet Union; in Italy the series had already aired in 1982 as Gotriniton – Goshogun.
- The Macron 1 adaptation borrowed the "Miami Vice formula" from the primetime series that had introduced it a year earlier, dubbing contemporary pop songs into its action scenes; the songs included "Beat It", "Shout", "Safety Dance", and "The Heat is On".
