Biography

Hugh Fraser is an English actor, theater director and author who was born in Westminster in 1945 and grew up in the Midlands. He trained at the Webber Douglas Academy and Lamda, and his first big break came with the part of Anthony Eden in the 1978 television series Edward & Mrs. Simpson, after which he was often cast as upper class or aristocratic characters. He is best known for playing Captain Hastings alongside David Suchet in Agatha Christie's Poirot and for the Duke of Wellington in Sharpe, opposite Sean Bean. His film work includes The Draughtsman's Contract (1982), Patriot Games (1992) and 101 Dalmatians (1996). He has narrated audiobooks of Christie's books, acted with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Much Ado About Nothing in 1979, directed plays, and written crime thrillers, the first of which, Harm, appeared in 2015.
