Hugh Sanders

Biography

Hugh Sanders was an American actor who spent seventeen years in radio before moving into Hollywood films in 1949. A native of East St. Louis, Illinois, he graduated from Northwestern University, where he studied journalism. His radio hosting took him from Ohio to New York and then to West Virginia, and he continued that work until 1949. On screen he appeared in more than seventy films between 1949 and 1966, and his best-known part was Dr. Reynolds, the local physician in To Kill a Mockingbird. He also worked extensively in television, making five guest appearances on Perry Mason, twice as murder victims, and he was a frequent guest star on Rawhide. He died in 1966.
