Plot summary
Dan Ballard is a respected citizen of Silver Lode, and the Fourth of July is the day he is to marry Rose Evans. Before the ceremony can take place, four riders come into town led by McCarty, a United States Marshal who knows Ballard from years earlier. McCarty arrests him for the murder of his brother and for the theft of twenty thousand dollars. The people of Silver Lode side with Ballard at first, and Ballard says the charges are false. He asks for time to find evidence that will prove his innocence, and he looks for a way to hold McCarty off until it can be produced.
