Plot summary
The Carroll family home sits on a small Caribbean island near Cuba, and Mary Carroll inherits it along with its reputation for being haunted. Warnings and death threats do not stop her from sailing to Havana to take possession of the castle. Larry Todd, a nightclub entertainer, thinks he killed a mobster and leaves New York with his friend Myron. The two of them also end up heading for Cuba, and the three travel together to the island, where they enter the castle and look for a treasure said to be hidden there, meeting a zombie and a ghost along the way.

- Scared Stiff was Carmen Miranda's last film; she died two years later, shortly after completing an episode of The Jimmy Durante Show on television.
- Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were against making Scared Stiff because they found the original film satisfactory, but producer Hal B. Wallis held the pair to their Paramount contract.
- Scared Stiff was the first of the Martin and Lewis team's films available in 3-track stereophonic sound, and its stereo tracks are now considered lost.
