Plot summary
Jarring Jack Jackson was an All-America football hero, and he cannot understand how he and his wife, a former champion Olympic swimmer, produced a son with no athletic gift. Junior Jackson prefers animal husbandry to sports, which his father counts as a disappointment. Jack leans on his standing as the college's leading alumni contributor to get Coach Wheeler to put Junior on the team, and he covers the tuition for Bill Baker, Junior's classmate and a promising player, on the condition that Bill shares a room with Junior and guides him in athletics and campus life. Junior's first turns at quarterback go badly, and the two roommates fall for the same co-ed.
