Plot summary
Jim Osborne is the assistant bank manager of a Los Angeles bank, where a million dollars in cash sits in the vault. At the library he learns that Brazil and the United States have no extradition treaty, and he works out that money taken late on a Friday would go undetected until the bank reopened on Monday. The coming season of Saturday openings means he must act that week or wait months. He presents the trip to Laurie, his wife, as a bank assignment in Rio de Janeiro, asking her and their daughter to come along and urging her to keep it to herself. Laurie is delighted, but insists their daughter remain at home with her mother.
