Harvey Atkin
Biography
Harvey Atkin was a Canadian actor whose path to performing began in commercials after jobs at his father's construction firm and in real estate. Born in Toronto, he developed an interest in acting at Northview Heights Secondary School, where his work in a production of Eugene O'Neill's one-act The Rope earned a prize at the Simpson's Drama Festival. He became known for playing Morty Melnick in Meatballs (1979), which brought him a Genie nomination, and for appearing as Sergeant Ronald Coleman in 95 episodes of Cagney & Lacey. On the big screen he had a cameo as a bus driver in Atlantic City (1980). His voice roles included Sam in the Sam & Max animated series and King Koopa in all three DiC Mario cartoons. Atkin also voiced Mr. Mushnik on Little Shop and characters on Beetlejuice and Ruby Gloom, and did voice-overs for roughly 3,000 commercials, winning three Clio Awards.
