Plot summary
Giles De'Ath is a British writer who has little use for anything modern. Locked out of his flat in the rain, he goes to see a film adaptation of a classic novel but enters the wrong theater and ends up watching the teen comedy Hotpants College II. Ronnie Bostock appears on screen, and Giles becomes fixated on the young actor. He attends Ronnie's films, collects teen magazines, clips photographs, and buys a television and VCR to watch rented tapes of Ronnie's work. His friend and agent suggests a holiday. Giles instead travels to Long Island, takes a motel room near Ronnie's hometown, and searches for a way to meet him. He approaches Ronnie's girlfriend Audrey with a story about his god-daughter Abigail.
