Plot summary
Jeff Martley is an architect whose marriage to Diana has broken down. Their young daughter Nancy is hurt in a car accident, and the injury is mild, so Jeff takes her to an emergency room for treatment. A zealous social worker at the hospital wrongly accuses him of child abuse. The child welfare agencies over-react to the accusation, removing Nancy from her father and placing her in a foster care center. Jeff and Diana take up the fight to get their daughter back, which means working through the arcane system of agencies and officials now standing between them and the girl.
