Plot summary
Duke Boykin makes his living as an independent trucker, and his friend Rane, a trucker turned biker, arrives at the farm for a visit. At a coffee shop they talk over the violent hijackings that are forcing independent drivers out of the business, and Rane fights a trucker who propositions Pickup, another driver. Vonetta and the children live at the Boykin house, where Tanker idolizes Rane. Duke admits he is thinking of quitting trucking and asks Rane to work with him, but Rane turns him down. A distress call comes over Duke's CB radio, and the two learn that another driver has been hijacked. Rane offers to stay and help. Duke collects a load of cars from King Caroll, a trucking boss who offers him work and hands over the load without the permit.
