Gary Sinise
Biography
Gary Sinise is an American actor, director, and musician who co-founded the Steppenwolf Theatre Company and has won a Tony, an Emmy, and a Golden Globe. He began his career on stage with Steppenwolf, which he helped found in 1974. He directed and starred in True West, earning an Obie Award, and later directed Orphans on Broadway. He received Tony nominations for The Grapes of Wrath and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. His film breakthrough was Lieutenant Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump (1994), which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He also starred in and directed Of Mice and Men (1992) and appeared in Apollo 13 (1995), Ransom (1996), and The Green Mile (1999). On television, he won a Golden Globe for Truman (1995) and an Emmy for George Wallace, and starred in a long-running CBS series from 2004 to 2013. He founded the Lt. Dan Band and retired from acting in 2020.

Sinise co-founded the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago in 1974 with two friends, Terry Kinney and Jeff Perry, and it went on to showcase actors such as John Malkovich and Joan Allen.
